Eric Metzgar is an in-demand drummer and versatile collaborator who offers his musicianship to jazz entertainer Jon Seiger, pianist Gordon Webster, soul-pop band BRAHIM!, and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He has played with jazz luminaries Joe Locke, Jimmy Greene, Christian Howes, and Carmen Bradford.
Since 2005, Eric has had the opportunity to perform in the Rockport, Lewiston, Iowa City, and Rochester jazz festivals. In June 2014, he served as the house drummer for the International Trombone Festival at the Eastman School of Music, performing with Michael Dease, John Fedchock, Bill Reichenbach, Jen Krupa, Jiggs Whigham, Jim Pugh, and Carol Jarvis.
Eric is a passionate educator deeply invested in music teaching and learning. Each summer, he teaches at the Rockport Jazz Camp under the direction of saxophonist Alexa Tarantino. He maintains a private studio and serves as a clinician at local and regional schools.
Eric holds a BM in Jazz Studies and an MM in Music Teaching and Learning from the Eastman School of Music. He lives in New York City and tours frequently across the United States and Canada.
